Drug Cases

Drug Cases M.C. Bruce has been handling possession and sales cases since becoming a public defender in 1987. He’s handled simple possession cases and complex manufacturing cases with excellent results.

M.C. Bruce’s Notable Cases:

In one memorable trial, he won an acquittal for a black man who was arrested for walking in the wrong neighborhood at the wrong time. The police tried to say that he was selling drugs and manufactured evidence against him. But M.C. Bruce convinced the jury that the man, who had no prior record, had been framed by the cops.

In a preliminary hearing in Humboldt County, he represented one of three defendants who were arrested for transportation of vast quantities of marijuana. M.C. Bruce’s aggressive cross examination of the investigating officer at prelim convinced the District Attorney to reduce his client’s charge from a felony to a misdemeanor. The client was granted probation and did not serve any jail time.

M.C. Bruce has won suppression motions on both straight possession and complex sales cases. One client, a former clerk of the court in Orange County, had been arrested for possession while she was driving out of the parking lot of an Angels game. M.C. Bruce’s incisive questioning of the arresting officer convinced one of the most conservative judges in Orange County to suppress the evidence and the case was dismissed.
